Field Trips at Learning Tree Farm
A Note for Visitors:
Weekday mornings in spring and fall are our peak season for field trips. You are welcome to visit during these times, but be aware that field trip students are usually on a tight schedule and their activities take precedence. We highly recommend that groups of 10 or more call ahead so that we can help schedule your visit at a time that will assure your most pleasant experience.

Whether you are a traditional school or a homeschool group – Students visiting Learning Tree Farm will enjoy exploring our barns, garden, wooded trails, and Century House in a hands-on and interactive way that meets state standards for life and plant cycle lessons through the following activities:
❋ Seasonal Field Trips
Spring, summer, and fall school and homeschool groups are invited to Learning Tree Farm for hands-on, standards-aligned lessons on life cycles and plant growth. Activities include:
Meeting farm animals (sheep, pigs, ponies, goats, cows, ducks, chickens, and more)
Exploring the teaching garden and sampling vegetables, fruits, and herbs
Hiking wooded trails and fields, visiting the tire swing and observation deck
Touring the 1800s Century House
Playing on tractors in the outdoor play area and using the nature playscape
Eating in the covered picnic shelter
Programs run rain or shine; please dress students for outdoor weather.
Cost: $10 per student and for chaperones. Teachers entrance is complimentary.
SPRING ON THE FARM
What new animals are at Learning Tree Farm this year? Spring on the farm is a great opportunity to bring your students for a day to a beautiful outdoor classroom. Our friendly livestock will be ready for visitors, including lambs, kids, chicks, piglets, and more! Our tasting garden is designed to have fresh vegetables ready to taste, touch, and smell in every season and spring brings us lettuce, spinach, peas, and other delicious cold-weather crops.
SUMMER ON THE FARM
Summer brings warmer weather, fresh vegetables in the garden, and extra time to enjoy all that the farm has to offer! In addition to our popular hands-on stations, children will create a summertime craft to take home.
AUTUMN ON THE FARM
Fall means pumpkins, cooler weather, and an opportunity to see the farm as we prepare for winter. Students will play our popular Pumpkin Scramble Game and choose a pumpkin to take home. Gross motor skills are emphasized as children jump over hay bales, swing on ropes, take a turn on the tire swing and run across our 10-acre hayfield.
❋ Pioneer Days
Students get a sense of farm life for Ohio pioneers. They use authentic 19th-century tools, like corn shellers, and wheat grinders. Learn about Ohio’s Native American influence is shared through the story of “The Three Sisters”, and hike through the woods to the tire swing.
Cost: $12 per student and for chaperones. Teachers entrance is complimentary.
❋ Homeschool Days
Discover your ultimate homeschool classroom this fall at Learning Tree Farm. Each Homeschool Day has a new focus. For 2026 your students will learn all about our local pollinators and our gardens! Educational staff will guide you at stations across the farm in this self-paced program from 10am-12:30pm. but you may continue exploring until 4:00 p.m.

❋ Learning Tree Farm Comes to You
Learning Tree Farm offers outreach programs that bring hands-on, nature-based learning to your site when groups can’t visit the farm. From November–March and June–August, our staff will design programs tailored to your needs and aligned with academic standards or event themes. We work with classrooms, churches, libraries, farmers’ markets, live nativities, summer camps, festivals, and more—bringing chickens, sheep, and goats for interactive experiences. Popular options include sheepherding demonstrations that attract and engage audiences.
