Throughout the year, the Farm cares for a variety of traditional farm animals, including cows, ducks, goats, pigs, sheep, donkeys, chickens, ponies, and an assortment of dogs and cats. The animals are housed in two historic barns—the Bank Barn, built into the side of a banked hill, and the Tobacco Barn, originally used for drying tobacco grown on the farm. To ensure the highest standard of animal care, Learning Tree Farm partners with a veterinarian and relies on an experienced, dedicated farm staff who provide daily care and attention.

To fully embrace hands-on learning, everyone is invited and encouraged to gently pet the animals. For everyone’s safety, please remember that you are a visitor in the animals’ home—be kind, move slowly, speak quietly, and always treat them with respect. Be sure to close gates behind you to help keep our animals and farm safe. For the health and safety of both animals and visitors, please do not feed any of the animals. Children must always be accompanied by an adult when in pastures and stalls.

Some animals arrive at Learning Tree Farm with names, while others are born here and named by our staff. You’re welcome to ask a Learning Tree Farm staff member or check the signage near the stalls to learn their names. Visitors are also invited to create their own names for the animals for the day—adding a bit of imagination and fun to your farm experience!

The Farm is home to a thriving raised-bed vegetable garden, an orchard, grapevines, and an herb garden, with flower gardens surrounding the historic Century House. With the help of a local farmer, the larger fields are planted on a rotating schedule with hay, corn, and soybeans, supporting both agricultural stewardship and learning opportunities.

The vegetable garden features raised beds growing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the year. In spring, cool-weather crops such as lettuce, spinach, carrots, peas, and radishes flourish. Summer brings an abundant harvest of tomatoes, onions, beans, cucumbers, hot and sweet peppers, potatoes, okra, and more. In fall, the garden yields kale, spinach, squash, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli. During winter, most of the garden rests, though a small greenhouse continues to produce spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and lettuce.

The orchard’s fruit trees produce apples, pears, and peaches, while the grapevines yield both purple and white grapes used to make juice and jam. Polly’s Herb Garden, located behind the Century House, features regularly planted herbs including basil, lavender, sage, rosemary, thyme, Italian parsley, and costmary.

Each garden plays an active role in Farm programs, where visitors learn that different parts of plants—the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits—are edible. Tasting and smelling are essential parts of these hands-on learning experiences. Produce grown at Learning Tree Farm is sold or bartered to help sustain the Farm and support its mission.

Everyone is invited to explore all that the Farm has to offer. Spend the day visiting the animals, wandering through the herb, vegetable, and flower gardens, or strolling the orchard. Hike the woodland trails that wind through meadows, hayfields, and thickets, and learn about pioneer life at the historic Century House. Explore the Bank Barn and the Tobacco Barn, and be sure to check out our Welcome Sign in the driveway loop between the Century House and Bank Barn, which highlights our Storybook Trail—a rotating trail featuring different children’s stories throughout the year.

Children will love the nature play area, complete with tractors, a playhouse, balance beams, tunnels, rocks to jump on, trees to climb, and a short wooded trail to explore independently. Pack a lunch and drinks to enjoy in the covered picnic shelter. Visitors can usually pet a few friendly barn cats and meet our canine staff—Trip, Nuut, Bean and Penelope—who help safeguard the Farm and may even invite you to play a game of fetch.

Learning Tree Farm offers multigenerational programs that celebrate nature, agriculture, Ohio history, and healthy living. Every program emphasizes hands-on experiences, using all aspects of the Farm—animals, gardens, fields, and people—to create meaningful, immersive learning for visitors of all ages.

The Farm features five historic buildings: the Bank Barn, Tobacco Barn, Century House, Milk House/Wash House, and Smoke House and then our new equipment barn and our greenhouse in the garden. The Century House, the original homestead, was built in stages. The first section included a downstairs kitchen and sitting area with a winding staircase leading to an upstairs room; the original fireplace is still functional today. Over the years, six additional rooms were added, with the last addition completed in the early 1900s. Indoor plumbing was installed in the 1970s, blending modern convenience with historic charm.

Learning Tree Farm is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization governed by a Board of Trustees and operated by a dedicated team of full- and part-time staff, along with many volunteers. The Farm is supported through admission and program fees, memberships, grants, fundraisers, and the generosity of donors.

We have multiple options listed below for your party needs!

For All Parties:

Picnic tables at the shelter are available. Any additional tables and chairs are your responsibility. You may move the tables within the shelter, but we ask that you move them back after your event. The farm has running water for hand washing and drinking water.  We have 4 portable toilets, one being handicap accessible. Electricity is available within the shelter and the barns. 

A member of Learning Tree Farm staff is present during your event as well. We allow each renter to choose their own caterer and vendors. We DO NOT provide linens or tableware.

Guests are asked to:

Bring their own food, cake, beverages, decorations, garbage bags, etc.  Please clean up decorations and remove all trash.  Trash must be taken with you; garbage bags are not supplied. Thank you for helping with our Leave No Trace policy. 

Guests are welcome to enter designated stalls, pens, or pastures with the animals. Adult supervision is REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES in all areas of the farm.

If no other group is scheduled the day of your party, you may use the shelter for the duration of your event AND continue to use the shelter. If another party is scheduled, we ask that you clean your tables so the next group can set up.

Payment

Payment is made via our website once your date is confirmed

We collect a $100 security deposit with the contracts to secure a date. This deposit is in addition to the event payment. The event payment is divided into two payments, with one being due 3 months before the event and the remainder due 1 month prior to the event.

Shelter House Party Rental

Parties are reserved for two (2) hours in our covered picnic shelter. This time can be extended with prior special arrangements. Each party has one (1) hour with a Learning Tree Farm staff member, touring the barns, meeting the animals and getting to be up close and personal with them! You will also receive a hike through the woods to the tire swing and 30 minutes available before and after for set-up and clean-up. Plus all-day farm admission to explore the farm after the party is over.

Cost: $175 for up to 20 people* for a 2-hour party.

Please note that paid guests include all children over two years of age AND accompanying adults, to total 20 people. If there are more than 20 guests, an added cost of $5 per additional guest is due on the day of the party.

After Hour Party Rental

For an after hours farm rental you will have access to the shelter house, animals, and use of the fire ring.  This option is perfect for larger corporate groups, older kids, and graduation parties! You have 6 hours for your setup, event, and clean up, starting no earlier than 3pm. You may begin setup at 3pm but be aware that the Farm is still open to visitors until 4pm. Your event must conclude by 10pm regardless of the time it begins. Your rental includes our shelter which has lighting but the parking lot and the paths to it are not lit.

During the peak season, April 1 through October 31, the rate for the Farm for 6 hours is $800. 

During the non-peak season, November 1- March 31, the rate for 6 hours is $600. 

A refundable deposit is required at time of reservation of $200

Cancellation Policy

Q: What if there is bad weather?

A: With an outdoor activity like the farm, weather can sometimes play a factor in the fun! In case of extreme weather, we will determine if it is safe to have the party. If there are concerns, we will contact you and cancel the party and it can either be rescheduled for no extra fee or your money will be refunded.

 Q: What if I have to cancel?

A: If it is more than 24 hours prior to your party, we will gladly provide a refund less a $50 cancellation fee. We regret that we cannot refund for cancellations within 24 hours of your event, but you may reschedule your event for a $50 rescheduling fee.

Learning Tree Farm is the perfect location for professional photography shoots. With 86 acres of beautiful, natural landscapes, there is something for everyone. Personal photos may be taken in public areas as part of our daily admission ($5.00 per person). Professional photographers (defined as persons being paid in cash or barter for the photos or bringing professional props on site) are expected to act as professionals and pay a site fee. This includes photographers for whom photography is not their primary source of income. 

Professional photographers pay $50 per shoot. If farm animals will be used, a staff member must be present and an additional fee of $20.00 per hour will be added to the fee. Photographers should contact our Operations Director at info@learningtreefarm.org listing needs for the shoot and requested date and wait until they are contacted by a LTF staff member to confirm. Once your date is confirmed, the site fee is paid via our payment portal.  In addition, photographers are required to complete and sign a Professional Photography Liability Waiver which will be emailed to you once the date is confirmed. Once the waiver and the payment is received by the farm, you will receive an email confirming your permission to shoot photos and should be carried with you on the day of the photo shoot.
